College Scholarship Essay Hi, my name is Stacey Burrell and I currently attending Boston Arts Academy as a Junior theatre major. I believe its never too early to start looking at colleges and scholarships. My schools of interest include Juilliard, Colombia, and Dartmouth. I am not the first in my family to go to college but I am apart of the first generation. My parents are from Jamaica and never fully completed their education. Ive always had to make the most of financial aid and luck. My parents are definitely not rich but weve always found ways to pay for what we need. My sister just enrolled at Cornell University almost entirely through financial aid and merit based scholarships. I feel as though I deserve this scholarship because my grades definitely reflect how important education is to me. I plan to major in Theatre Arts and minor in Education. Life and Work of Langston Hughes Early Years James Mercer Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri, on February 1, 1902, to James Nathaniel Hughes, a lawyer and businessman, and Carrie Mercer (Langston) Hughes, a teacher. The couple separated shortly thereafter. James Hughes was, by his son’s account, a cold man who hated blacks (and hated himself for being one), feeling that most of them deserved their ill fortune because of what he considered their ignorance and laziness. Langston’s youthful visits to him there, although sometimes for extended periods, were strained and painful. He attended Columbia University in 1921-22, and when he died he, left everything to three elderly women who had cared for him in his last illness, and Langston was not even mentioned in his will.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Hughes mother went through protracted separations and reconciliations in her second marriage (she and her son from this marriage would live with him off and on in later years. He was raised by alternately by her, by his maternal grandmother, and, after his grandmother’s death, by family friends. In 1915, he was class poet of his grammar-school graduating class in Lincoln. From 1916 to 1920, he attended Central High School in Cleveland, where he was a star athlete, wrote poetry and short stories (and published many of them in the Central High Monthly), and on his own read such modern poets as Paul Laurence Dunbar, Edgar Lee Masters, Vachel Lindsay, and Carl Sandburg. Deviance has been one of the most apparent behaviors or actions of people who commit and engage themselves in violent crimes. By thoroughly understanding its delineated characterization in John J. Macionis’ Sociology, this behavior in most cases violates the established cultural norms which include lawfully enacted rules and even informal defiance of social customs (Chapter 9). The criminal justice system continuously reforms its standards and practices to efficiently maintain social control and crime to carry out proper sanctioning of people who infringe the law.The foremost goal of each society’s correctional theory is to furnish preclusion to the deviant behaviors of some citizens. The success of the current criminal justice system has been in great argument due to the fact that several people who had spent some time in state prison or jail did not change their whole being to the betterment of themselves and the society. The correctional system faces diverse issues a nd challenges in organizing and operating jails in coping up to the above concerns.The facilities and design of the prison are very significant to exhibit a detention cell that can accommodate the necessities of the prisoners but also administer incarceration and imprisonment to the highest level. Deviance can be controlled through sturdy belief in conventional respect and morality for the authority (qtd. in Macionis, Chapter 9).Rehabilitation theories, however, received many arguments that need to be addressed when pursued and mainly incorporated to the penal system. One main issue is the non-availability of scientific research in determining the reaction levels of individuals who will undergo the rehabilitation. This is important in determining the success rate of the rehabilitation scheme. Another concern being raised is the method or philosophy to be utilized for the offender. Resources and funds for the program appear to be too costly and complicated to successfully implement.The complexities of the processes to be used are also being questioned. This is because a modification in the values or behavior of the offenders can traumatically change the behavioral structure of the individual. Though there are still many quandaries being raised, the rehabilitation reform can be practiced in the penal system with appropriate resources. Studies should also be developed in answering the queries being raised by people who believe that extending sentences and making the detention cells and prisons a less desirable place than it is today.The deterrence of crime through a more rigid and strict penal system is a broader path to take by the authorities rather than the rehabilitation program. This is because while offenders may have committed heinous or violent crimes, they are still human beings with rights to take in consideration at all times. Despite the fact that, prisoners are deprived of freedom, they are still fully entitled to their human rights.Furthermore, the criminal justice system’s main objective is defined by the President’s Commission as a stand for the society to â€Å"†enforce the standards of conduct necessary to protect individuals and the community. † Prison reform is far from being over. While crime is prevalent, a more effective penal system should also be utilized. The legal and penal system of a society provides a gauge into the government’s law and order to include morality, it is always best to seek reform for the betterment of the offenders rather than harder punishments that callous not only their individuality but also their souls.

Question: Why were limited liability companies developed? Could a modern global economy be run on the back of partnerships? Answer: Introduction Liability is said to be limited when a persons pecuniary responsibility, in relation to his investment in a company or partnership is limited to a fixed amount. In case a limited liability is sued, then the company is sued as a separate legal person and not its directors or shareholders. The members responsibility is limited as far as the actions of the company are concerned but the members may be held liable for their own actions. Reasons why Limited liability Companies were developed The basis on which limited liability companies were incorporated was that all debts incurred by the company are to be borne by the company itself. The directors or the shareholders of such companies are not to be held directly liable. These types of companies work on the principle that a company is a separate legal entity. The debts incurred by the company are its own liabilities. In the United Kingdom Limited Liability Partnership was introduced through the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2000 and Limited Liability Partnership Regulations, 2001. In United Kingdom members of a Limited Liability Partnership might agree in their agreement to bear joint liable but can in no way held severally liable. This seems to be the prime reason for incorporation of these companies. Businesses in the United Kingdom had for long campaigned for changing rules relating to liability. Since the government was scared of the fact that businesses would move out, in case they are not given the status of limited liability, LLPs were introduced in United Kingdom. Another important reason was that incorporation of these companies were comparatively cheaper and it was presumed that these types of companies would be business friendly.[1] Whether a modern global economy can be run on the back of partnerships In case of partnership ownership of a business is divided amongst two or more persons. It allows more people to participate in the business which in turn brings in more capital and also brings in great expertise. Profits earned by a partnership business with unlimited liability are taxed as the income of the members. Since all members are at risk of losing money, in case the business incurs losses, the members would be more interested in running the business successfully as compared to limited liability partnership where the liability of the members is limited. Creditors would not be entitled to any claim on personal property of the members.[2] It is much easier to form a partnership business as compared to a company. These partnership businesses are governed by less strict laws and the partners are free to decide how to run the business. Thus these types of organizations are flexible.[3] In case of partnership prospective employees may be given incentive of becoming a partner and thus attracted to business. Since a partnership has more than one owner, each having different skills and expertise, there happens to come together a huge pool of acquaintance. Partnership businesses are also much more effective cost wise.[4] Thus in view of the above discussion we can say that a modern global economy can be run on the back of partnership business.
